The drive from Cebu City to the southern end of the island was long, so we broke up the trip and saw lots of places along the way.
Simala Shrine is a huge church that attracts a ton of people worshiping there. We went at the busiest possible time. There was a line about three hours long to get in. Luckily since we weren’t going inside the shrine, we didn’t need to wait.
We went to Moalboal. Unfortunately when we got there I didn’t know (or I forgot?) that there are sardine runs here, swimming distance from the beach. Imagine snorkeling and seeing millions of silver fish swarming around you! I might go back just to see that. It was still a really nice place to visit. The weather was mild and there were still nice things to see on the beach.
There was a 15 minute hike up to Kawasan Falls, but it was worth it. You’re required to rent a life jacket to go into the water, which I scoffed at originally. After getting in, I was glad they had that rule. The water was cold and moved fast, especially under the waterfall.
